Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we just can't wait to get our hands on!
This week's picks:
A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan
Goodreads' description:
"Rosalinda Fitzroy has been asleep for 62 years when she is woken by a kiss. Locked away in the chemically-induced slumber of a stasis tube in a forgotten sub-basement, sixteen-year-old Rose slept straight through the Dark Times that killed millions and utterly changed the world she knew. Now, her parents and her first love are long dead, and Rose - hailed upon her awakening as the long-lost heir to an interplanetary empire - is thrust alone into a future in which she is viewed as either a freak or a threat. Desperate to put the past behind her and adapt to her new world, Rose finds herself drawn to the boy who kissed her awake, hoping that he can help her to start fresh. But when a deadly danger jeopardizes her fragile new existence, Rose must face the ghosts of her past with open eyes - or be left without any future at all."
I'm not sure about the sci-fi aspect of it, but I love fairytales and it sounds like a great twist on Sleeping Beauty. I don't know that I've ever read a futuristic fairytale retelling, so that is definitely something new!
Still Waters by Emma Carlson Berne
Goodreads' description:
"Hannah and Colin seem to have the perfect relationship, but as her second-to-last year of school draws to a close and Colin prepares to head off to college, Hannah feels he might be slipping away. She knows they need some real quality time alone if she’s going to hold on to him. So when she finds pictures of his old family lake house, she secretly schemes to get him there. But when they arrive, he’s not thrilled. Actually, he’s totally freaked out. And though she gets him to relax, his behavior become stranger by the day: he disappears for long stretches of the night, has a bizarre breakdown in a nearby diner, and when the car stops running, he seems completely unconcerned about fixing it. The lake house holds secrets, and what Hannah doesn’t know and Colin can’t remember just might kill them both."
Wow, this one sounds mysterious and maybe just a little disturbing...gotta love a book with lots of secrets. And the cover is so pretty, love the beautiful shades of blue used! I think it does look a little more "adult" than YA though.
What books are you waiting on?
I can't wait for this one either! The cover is beautiful and it sounds like a great read :)

Happy reading!
Still Waters sounds AMAZING! Thank you for letting me know about this one! I have been hooked on Y.A. Thrillers lately, since I read Rosebush. I just finished Brother/Sister yesterday and it was so good. I plan to review it later today.
ReplyDeleteA Long, Long Sleep sounds intriguing. I love modern retellings of fairy tales but the sci fi aspect makes me iffy. I wouldn't buy it but I would get it from the library and give it a shot.

ReplyDeleteHere's MY WOW POST
Whew! Still Waters sound so creepy. I haven't heard of it before. Thanks. I'm adding it on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing what your WoWs are because they're usually novels I haven't heard of but I know I'll enjoy reading too. Thanks for giving me two new books to add to my wishlist :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with A Canadian Girl, your WoWs always put new books on my radar :) It looks like A Long, Long Sleep will help to fill the YA gap for futuristic/sci-fi fairytales!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to seeing what your WoW picks are Danya because I always seem to find something new and it was no exception this time. I hadn't heard about A Long Long Sleep but it does seem like a great twist on Sleeping Beauty! Still Waters also sounds like it will be a creepy, dark read that will leave us on the edge of our seats! :)
ReplyDeleteLindsi over at BSAOT has been raving about A Long, Long Sleep, so it's definitely on my TBR! I hadn't heard of Still Waters, but it sounds AWESOME! So dark and mysterious and probably paranormal ;) And the cover is beautiful! Thanks for the heads up!
