The "Top Ten Tuesday" meme is hosted by
The Broke and The Bookish, and this week's topic is villains! I took a few of these from a previous one about "most dislikeable characters," but villains are a little different, so here goes...
1.)
Sauron from
Lord of the Rings – because he's the epitome of evil, really. Also honourable mention to
Saruman, who was also very despicable.
2.)
Selia and her partner-in-crime
Ungolad from
The Goose Girl – she is manipulative and he is slimy...together they make the perfect villainous pair.
3.)
Lady Macbeth – She's icy and ruthless and totally selfish (plus, she goes crazy at the end, so she gets her just deserts!)
4.)
Linay from
Plain Kate by Erin Bow — he's not the most evil villain on this list by any means, but he has to be one of the most interesting. I actually felt sorry for him at one point, but he does use Kate abominably.
5.)
The Troll Queen from
East by Edith Pattou — She has this disturbing desire to possess one of the main characters, treating him as some kind of "pet" and clouding his memories with potions in a perverted attempt to get him to...love her? *shakes head*
6.)
Voldemort – yeah, I know, he's on everyone's list. There's a reason for that! Also Professor Umbridge totally gets a mention here...so sadistic.
7.)
IT from
A Wrinkle in Time — okay, generally I found this book really weird, but IT...was very creepy, gotta say.
8.)
Vesputo from
The Seer and the Sword by Victoria Hanley — *spoilers!* The man murders Princess Torina's father, drugs her mother, and plans on killing her as well. All he cares about is power.
9.)
O'Brien from
1984 — *spoilers!* He pretends to be on Winston's side and then sells him out and then tortures him. Totally two-faced.
10.)
Hal from
2001: A Space Odyssey — I haven't actually read the book, but from the movie, Hal was a real piece of work. Plus just the whole idea that a computer can exert independent will is unsettling...
