Waiting on Wednesday: Nerve and Pushing the Limits

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we just can't wait to get our hands on!

This week's picks:

Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

Goodreads' description: "When Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game *knows* her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it’s exhilarating—Vee and Ian’s fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn. Suddenly they’re playing all or nothing, and the prize might be their lives."

This one sounds kind of edgy and disturbing...I'm interested to see how far things get taken. I don't know if this is straight-up contemporary or if there's a futuristic/dystopian element, but whatever the case it looks like it'll be a creepy and exciting read!

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

Goodreads' description: "In Pushing the Limits, two teens, brought together by their court ordered therapist, work together to learn the secrets of their case files, but neither foresaw the shattering consequences of learning the truth regarding their families or of falling in love."

I've been a fan of the premise of this book from the start. Meeting through a court-ordered therapist, and falling in love? Sounds fantastic. I'm hoping it'll have a nice blend of grit, drama, and romance, without going over-the-top. The blurb above doesn't tell us that much, but there's a short excerpt on the author's website that has me wanting to read more:

"'I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise.' Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins?

His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. 'You didn't do that — did you? It was done to you?'

No one ever asked that question.
They stared.
They whispered.
They laughed.
But they never asked."
