Kiss, Marry, Kill: Jane Eyre

I'm trying this out as a regular feature. Here's how it works: you take a book, choose 3 guy characters from the book, and then the other person has to pick one to kiss, one to marry, and one to kill.

This week, it's Jane Eyre. In terms of film adaptations, I'm partial to the 1983 mini-series, personally (I think it's the first version of Jane Eyre I saw, and it's certainly the one that sticks closest to the book) but I've included pictures from the more recent 2006 version as well, which also does a decent job. In any case, feel free to visualize the characters however you choose!

The choices:

1.) Edward Rochester

2.) Richard Mason

3.) St. John Rivers

So, who do you kiss, who do you marry, and who do you kill? I'm willing to bet I can predict what most of the responses will be...but maybe I'll be surprised!

As always, if you'd like to do your own, feel free to mention it in the comments or leave a link to your post there :)

  1. I would marry Mr Rotchester (well, he's the hero of the book!), kiss St John Rivers and kill Richard Mason.

  2. LOL! This is going to be fun :D

Kiss: This is actually the last option I'm filling out, so I guess I'll have to choose Mason, though I'd much rather kiss Edward and marry him too :)

    Marry: Edward Rochester
I've been dreaming of marrying him for four years now...sometimes Charlotte Brontë makes me hate her, why did she have to create a character that no real man could ever compare with? >_<

    Kill: St. John
Muahahaha...mine is an evil laugh, now DIE!!! ^_^

Though I have to add, I LOVE the 2006 version (and Toby, especially in that white shirt....woah ;) but the version that truly sticks the closest to the book is the 1973 version, I think.

  3. This is awesome. My favorite book of all time is Jane Eyre. I think I will have to follow Kristine's comment with the same choices.

Kiss: Richard Mason because I never liked St. John Rivers.

    Marry: Rochester. Sigh.

Kill: St. John Rivers. In Jasper Fforde's Eyre Affair I cringed at the "original" ending of Jane Eyre where Jane goes with Rivers to India. Oh goodness, that made me die inside a little bit.

  4. @Stephanie: Yep, I'd marry the brooding Byronic hero as well :D

@Kristine: I'm not sure if I've seen the 1973 version - will have to look into it! I found the version that came out this year to be rather disappointing, unfortunately. And I would kill St. John too, LOL!

@Lindsey: Oh, I know! I recall quite liking the Eyre Affair overall, but I'm pretty sure I thought the "original" ending was terrible. No way she goes to India with St. John. *shakes head*

  5. How much fun!

Definitely kiss St. John and try to heat up that cold fish.

    Marry Rochester, for sure.

Kill Mason. (Not that he really deserves death, but he does sort of leave his sister in the lurch.)

For fun, you could try my "Who's your literary soulmate?" quiz. Rochester is a choice!

  6. @Eve Marie Mont: LOL, yes St. John really is a cold fish. And thanks for the link to the quiz! I tried it and got Mr. Darcy, and I love P&P so that works well :)
