In My Mailbox (17)

In this meme, hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren, we share the books we've received, bought or taken out from the library.

Won:

Thirteen Reasons Why
by Jay Asher — I won this from The Perpetual Page-turner a while ago, but the first copy got lost in the mail so Jamie was nice enough to order another one from The Book Depository, and it arrived this week! Thanks so much, Jamie! :)

From the library:

I went to a different library branch than usual to look up something for a class, and while I was there of course I had to check out the YA section. Big mistake...I was surprised to see so many books I hadn't even heard of there and consequently my library haul has gotten even more out of hand!

Lucy Unstrung by Carole Lazar
Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones
The Book of Trees by Leanne Lieberman
Daughters of the Sea: Hannah by Kathryn Lasky
Vidalia in Paris by Sasha Watson

And I found some I thought might work for my Read Outside Your Comfort Zone Challenge:

Shift by Jennifer Bradbury
A Taste of Rabbit by Linda Zuckerman
Hate List by Jennifer Brown
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Number 8 by Anna Fienberg
Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith

And then there were a few I'd ordered that came in this week.

The Mermaid's Mirror by L.K. Madigan
Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal (adult)
Change of Heart by Shari Maurer
Restoring Harmony by Joelle Anthony

I don't even know where to start with all of these —any recommendations?

  1. Ooh, nice haul :) I've only read The Mermaid's Mirror, I really enjoyed it, so I vote for that one to start off with :)

  2. Great stash, Danya! Just an FYI, "Hate List" and "13 Reasons Why" are gritty and quite dark. I would definitely but a few books in between them to make it a 'lighter' reading load. I really like "Mermaid's Mirror" and "Flygirl" both different but strong female characters. Happy Reading!

  3. Wow! You had such an awesome week! I hope you really like 13 Reasons Why so I hope you do too. Hate List is such a good book but it's heavy reading.

  4. I've read several of these. Hate List always makes me go "ooohhhh" when I see it - I think that might be my first choice. But, 13 reasons, Shift, Flygirl, Mermaid's Mirror - all very different, but good in their own way. I love historical fiction, so Flygirl was special to me too. Have fun! Doesn't look like you can go wrong with any of these...

  5. Oh wow, you are awesome. You just made me feel so much better about all the books I just ordered from the library :P

The only book I've read is Thirteen Reasons Why and I absolutely adored it. It had me crying in public.

I've heard very good things about Sunshine. Jennifer Bradbury (Shift) is also the author of the upcoming book Wrapped, which I can't wait to read.

  6. Great batch of books! I've been going back and forth on Sunshine so I'll definitely look forward to your review on that one.

I STILL NEED TO MAKE MY LIST FOR YOUR CHALLENGE. I'll make that my goal this week, lol. Happy reading and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  9. Most of them are new for me. Thanks posting the cover.

How great your library is. My library only provide an old book. It seems they never update it. :(

I voted for Thirteen Reasons Why to be your next reading ;)

  11. Wow some great looking books I'd say go with Mermaids Mirror, 13 reasons why or hate list. All of which I'm dying to read. I've seen good things about hate list, and then 13 reasons why I've read they're going to make a movie from it supposely.

  14. Your library must be amazing, you always come away with great books from there! One of my friends loved Thirteen Reasons Why although I haven't read it myself yet. I have The Mermaid's Mirror on my shelf to read soon and Daughters Of The Sea looks good too. Enjoy :)

  16. I just bought Restoring Harmony online....It looks SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! I'd suggest that one...

To answer your question you left on my blog about Possession from Galley Grab....The Author (Elana Johnson) tweeted a link to download the galley...I'm sure you could dig through her old tweets and find it somewhere...

There's supposedly a (mythical) February Galley Grab Newsletter floating around, but I haven't received it....I haven't actually talked to anyone either that has it....Just rumors floating around the blogosphere...If you hear of anyone that got it let me know! :) :)
