Waiting on Wednesday: Waterfall and Ashes, Ashes

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we just can't wait to get our hands on!

This week's picks:

Waterfall by Lisa Bergren

Goodread's description:

"Lisa Tawn Bergren's new YA series, River of Time, is romantic, historical fiction in which the plucky heroine doesn't have to fear a vampire's bite but must still fight for her life. In Waterfall, American teenager Gabi Betarrini accidently finds herself in sixteenth-century Italy . . . Knights. Swords. Horses. Armor. And Italian hotties. Most American teens want an Italian vacation, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives there with their archaeologist parents. Stuck on yet another hot, dusty dig, they are bored out of their minds... until they place their hands atop handprints in an ancient tomb and find themselves catapulted into the sixteenth-century—and in the middle of a fierce battle between knights bent on killing one another."

I first saw this one on Caitlin's blog, Scarrlet Reader, and immediately added it to my wishlist! I haven't read any really captivating time travel books in a while now, and this one sounds like fun. The medieval time period is always really lush and exciting, and I love the colors in the cover and the dissipating light effect.

Ashes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari

And now for something completely different...fast-forward to the future!

Goodreads' description:

"Epidemics, floods, droughts--for sixteen-year-old Lucy, the end of the world came and went, taking 99% of the population with it. As the weather continues to rage out of control, and Sweepers clean the streets of plague victims, Lucy survives alone in the wilds of Central Park. But when she's rescued from a pack of hunting dogs by a mysterious boy named Aidan, she reluctantly realizes she can't continue on her own. She joins his band of survivors, yet, a new danger awaits her: the Sweepers are looking for her. There's something special about Lucy, and they will stop at nothing to have her."

I'm not sure if this is the finalized cover, but Jo Treggiari just posted a photo of some ARCs on her blog:

Looks very end-of-the-world-ish...
