Waiting on Wednesday: Have You Seen Ally Queen? and A Breath of Eyre

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we just can't wait to get our hands on!

This week's picks:

Have You Seen Ally Queen? by Deb Fitzpatrick

Goodreads' description:

"Ally Queen, aged fifteen, is the new kid in a very small town. Uprooted from her comfortable city life and dumped in ‘hicksville’ she’s trying to find her place amongst the bogans, the surfies and the spinach-munching hippies.

Life is tough when your closest friend is miles away and deep and meaningful conversations are restricted to the length of a text message. And Ally needs a friend. Her mum is suffering post-traumatic stress disorder and the quiet country life, which was meant to help things, just seems to make them worse.

When she meets Rel the annoying boy next door, it seems she’s hit rock bottom. But first impressions can be deceptive and, as Ally learns to relax, she discovers that life needn’t be as hard as she makes it."

This one looks like it could be a quirky fun read, and I'm interested to see how her mom's PTSD is handled. The cover's simple but I'm actually kind of liking the tie-dye wash effect of the background.

A Breath of Eyre by Eve Marie Mont

Goodreads' description:

"Emma Townsend has always believed in stories—the ones she reads voraciously, and the ones she creates in her head. Perhaps it’s because she feels like an outsider at her exclusive prep school, or because her stepmother doesn’t come close to filling the void left by her mother’s death. And her only romantic prospect—apart from a crush on her English teacher—is Gray Newman, a long-time friend who just adds to Emma’s confusion. But escape soon arrives in an old leather-bound copy of Jane Eyre…

Reading of Jane’s isolation sparks a deep sense of kinship. Then fate takes things a leap further when a lightning storm catapults Emma right into Jane’s body and her nineteenth-century world. As governess at Thornfield, Emma has a sense of belonging she’s never known—and an attraction to the brooding Mr. Rochester. Now, moving between her two realities and uncovering secrets in both, Emma must decide whether her destiny lies in the pages of Jane’s story, or in the unwritten chapters of her own…
"

No cover for this one yet but I'm super excited about the description! It sounds a bit like The Eyre Affair for YA. I'm a big fan of Jane Eyre so really looking forward to reading this one (and I love the title, too!) You can view a trailer for it here on the author's website.
