Waiting on Wednesday: Divergent and Delirium

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and features books that we just can't wait to get our hands on!

Yep, the theme for this WoW is dystopian:

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Goodreads' description:

"In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris, and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together, they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes-fascinating, sometimes-exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen.

But Tris also has a secret: one she’s kept hidden from everyone, because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly-perfect society, she also learns that her secret might be what helps her save those she loves . . . or it might be what destroys her."

Wow. I just love the premise of this one. It sounds like it has everything I look for in a dystopian novel: a well-thought-out society, action, romance, secrets...can't wait!! Also, the cover is eye-catching and awesome (lol does that ring of fire remind anyone else of Sauron's eye?)

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Goodreads' description:

"Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -the deliria- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love."

I enjoyed Lauren Oliver's Before I Fall and I'm interested to see what she'll do with a dystopian. Heard fabulous things about this one and the cover is so so pretty!

What books are you waiting on?

  6. Great choices! I saw the cover of Divergent on another blog but didn't know what it was about. Now I want to read it! A dystopian Chicago! I'm currently reading Delirium. As Rummanah Aasi mentioned check out NetGalley to see if you can read an electronic ARC for your Kindle (if you have one).

  10. LOL, touche. Heathcliff is and will always remain as an outcast, who was dirted like dirt by everyone including the heartless Catherine. He's passionate, driven, and honest. *Sigh*

As for Delirium, I'm saving it for my next batch of reviews. I have to finish up 3 or 4 books and then start on my new slew of books.

  11. I've seen Delirium around the blogosphere quite a lot and haven't taken much notice of it but looking at the synopsis now, it looks really good. I have a feeling it is one of the books available online as an e book through NetGalley if you want a preview before you get hold of it.
